The IPAA/PESA Petroleum Academy at Southwest High School (IPAS) seniors in the business strand participated in the Trade Fair at North East Mall on Saturday, February 18th for the Junior Achievement (JA) Company Program. The event concluded 13 week-long sessions from the fall, followed by extensive preparation for the competition. It is computer-based and business volunteers served as consultants to the students, as they worked through the program to develop their business venture. The student teams demonstrated their creativity, planning, marketing and sales techniques, as well as organizational and leadership skills to start an actual business. They made decisions and answered questions about funding, management and teamwork.

Major benefits of participating in the JA Company Program are networking with local executives, learning from entrepreneurs and developing professional skills. Qualified students who complete a JA program can also apply for a local JA Scholarship.
